Put Dumbledore Back in the Closet or For The Love Of Money

See http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1674550,00.html for original article by John Cloud.

I imagine after reading Mr Cloud's article that he and I would see eye to eye on very few things but this article is one of those places. I can't say I'm a great Harry Potter fan, though I know people who are. I have seen the movies when they came out on DVD. The stories are entertaining. I can even imagine that Sir Ian McKellen, http://www.mckellen.com/, is kicking himself for not taking the part when offered upon the death of Richard Harris, that is, if he was even asked. I do think he would have given an outstanding performance as he is a very good actor. I think Peter O'toole would have been even better (funny, upon looking up some background information I found that the Harris family wanted Peter O'toole to take over the part!) I'm sure Sir Ian did not want to be typecast into the role of Wizard after his performance as Gandalf.

That all being said... I believe the only reason that J.(o)K.(e) Rowling did not mention her ideas on Dumbledore's love interests in any of the seven books or till after they all hit the market and sold in incredible numbers was GREED. If she had been open about this bomb she chose to drop after the (hopefully) final book she would not have sold as well as she did and would have less money in purse. She is a coward who chose to hide her ideas so that she did not suffer the consequences of putting them out there. There are many people across the world who would take a dim view of a major lead character who is gay. Homosexuality will be a discussion of another post, but not on my political forum (watch in http://obadiahsvision.blogspot.com/). Personally I think the whole Harry Potter phenomena has been way overblown. I hope the box office sales of her movies suffer. I think it was a callous move and children will be hurt by it (then again, maybe their parents should never have let them read the H.P. books in the first place.)
