Georgie Porgie

Georgie Porgie, Puddin' and Pie,
Kissed the girls and made them cry,
When the boys came out to play
Georgie Porgie ran away.

Somehow I just think this is appropriate. The fact of the matter is the President has made mistakes as I and many others see it. He has done some things right, but overall, when he decided on the course of action of invading Iraq and going after Saddam Hussein he blew it. I believe the only reason we really went into Iraq is that PGW wanted revenge on Saddam for putting a contract out on his father. So here we are, sacrificing American lives for people who as a whole do not really appreciate it and are not willing to stand up for themselves.

By the way, what makes us (America) think we are qualified to tell the rest of the world how to govern themselves. We are not without crime and corruption. It wasn't that long ago in our history rival fire departments would fight over territory. We are still killing each other on the streets of our cities. We don't have the resources to be the world's police. These are all reasons we shouldn't be in Iraq. The current administration is wrong and I cannot wait till the next election of choosing the lesser of two evils is over and we have someone new in office. It is long past time for him and his oil cronies to go.

Now Dick Cheney, oil company lackey, he is dangerous. If you don't agree, go look at his taxes.

IT IS THE SOLDIER

It is the Soldier, not the minister,
Who has given us freedom of religion.
It is the Soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the Soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the Soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us freedom to protest.
It is the Soldier, not the lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a fair trial.
It is the Soldier, not the politician,
Who has given us the right to vote.
It is the Soldier who salutes the flag,

Who serves beneath the flag,

And whose coffin is draped by the flag,

Who allows the protester to burn the flag.

In rememberance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to defend our nation and its citizens, I am posting the poem, "It is the Soldier," by Charles M. Province. (Thanks to Karl B for posting the complete poem in the comments.)

I am a united States Sailor. I do not take offense that soldier is used, I embrace the term to include all members of the Armed Forces whether they be Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, Coast Gaurdsmen or National Guardsmen. Here is to all of them who, "Stand the Watch!" Here is to you my brothers and sisters whether you are guarding the homeland or overseas. The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious untothee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.
